In these videos, I lay to rest 5 myths about bol.com.
5 misconceptions that often cause companies to unfairly decide not to be active on the platform.
The myth in this video : bol.com’s commission is too expensive. This leaves me with too little margin….
But is this really the case? How much margin are you spending on in-store staff or Google SEA costs? Is this comparable to commission?
Actually, you will find that if you make the comparison, you get a huge amount from such a platform for a “small” commission.
The first question companies ask themselves when considering selling on bol.com: “Does my product have enough margin to bear the cost?”
Look, it’s true: selling on bol is not free. You pay a commission per product sold.
And I can already hear you thinking : “Do I have to give margin? tarara!”. And I understand that it is indeed a different way of working than through your own store or webshop.
BUT you have to start comparing these costs the right way ! Let’s compare these with the costs involved in running your own webshop. You have :
- high maintenance costs for the layout of your website
- the security costs and updates you need to keep up with regularly
- The entire payment system behind your website
- the budget you have to pay to Google to be at the top of the results, and so on….
All these points will automatically be taken care of by the platform when you put items live, without having even sold anything. You can therefore say that the costs you have for your own webshop are simply translated into a commission at bol.com. A commission you only have to pay when a product is sold! This while the invoices of your webshop are of course in your mailbox every month…
So, is the myth that selling on bol.com is too expensive true? Not in my opinion, and that of 50,000 other sellers. After all, where else can you find a channel with 5 million visits a day, where you can start and stop whenever you want, at a cost only when you sell?
Do you want to know the exact cost of bol.com? Then I have an interesting starter guide for sellers on bol.com.
